WA9KJI is one of the worst violators of the amateur regulations of all time — but his antics are so insane (including parading in public wearing underwear on his head) that it must be admitted that he is unintentionally funny at times, and this cartoonist has captured his essential spirit (click on the image for the full cartoon, 211 kb)....

While we're on the subject of the unintentionally amusing, this web site by one of the jammers, WB0CXJ, should give you quite a chuckle, as should this one, also by a jammer, AA5HQ, whose modus operandi is to make unidentified, abusive, and vulgar comments over legitimate 3950 users while inebriated.

Even after receiving a warning letter from Riley Hollingsworth, W9ART continues his intentional interference on 3950 kHz!

W9ART, Arthur Visser, in the course of an almost unbelievable Christmas Eve bout of obscene jamming, openly called for the murder of another amateur radio operator. He was later joined by another serial jammer, WA9KJI. It was all captured on tape and may be downloaded in this .wav file (12/24/99, 2740 kb)

As a result of this evening of jamming, Visser received this stern warning letter from Riley Hollingsworth of the FCC.

One would think that the radio thug would have been chastened by this. But no; Visser resumed his jamming activities less than two weeks after receiving his warning. You can hear his renewed jamming in this recording (1/15/00, 1229 kb), in which you will hear his oft-repeated technique of pretending to "check in" to the Liberty Net, where he knows he is not wanted, and then continuing by purposely talking on top of other stations.

Many who are new to these topics may not be aware that David Castle, WA9KJI, has been engaging in regular — sometimes daily — intentional interference on 3950 for eight years. Here's a recording of one historical example of many which could be cited, in which WA9KJI engages in a "jamfest" over an existing QSO (12/5/98):

On January 4th, David Castle, WA9KJI, was engaging in his usual monologuing and harassment on 3950 kHz to prevent its use by others, when Riley Hollingsworth, K4ZDH, checked into the frequency and gave his on-the-spot analysis of KJI's behavior. In addition, one can clearly hear the severe distortion in WA9KJI's signal. It is not known if Mr. Hollingsworth will take enforcement action against Castle for this incident, which is merely the latest in an eight-year history of intentional interference. The unid jammer who has been dubbed Doofus has been plaguing 3950 and adjacent frequencies for well over a year. He has two "modes" of jamming.

In the first, and the one which gave him his name, he talks in a cruel parody of a retarded person's voice. You may listen to a short clip of Doofus doing that here. (81 kb)

In the second jamming mode, which you may listen to here, Doofus does an exaggerated imitation of KE4NY, a legitimate 3950 participant. (82 kb) In this clip, note well the distinctive laughing of one of Doofus's compatriots, who seems to often be on the air appreciating his master.

It is known that Doofus transmits from a location along an approximate bearing line passing through Richmond, Virginia from Hudson, New Hampshire. Doofus has a very strong signal in the Middle Atlantic states, especially Virginia, but only a moderate one in the Midwest.
